COVID-19 related cancellations for the area

In an expected move, the City of Galesburg Department of Parks and Recreation has closed all indoor recreation facilities to programming and has canceled all programs and special events through May 15, 2020. The closures came following the latest guidance from local, state and national health organizations regarding the Coronavirus. The announcement includes all classes, programs, and leagues organized through the Department of Parks and Recreation, such as swim lessons, volleyball clinics, etc. Lake Storey Pavilion and Hawthorne Gym & Pool will all be closed. Some entities, however, will now have adjusted hours through May 15th or are still open. Bunker Links Golf Course will remain open. Lakeside Recreation Facility will be open for administrative purposes only – with adjusted hours Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. According to a release from the City of Galesburg and Director of Parks and Recreation Tony Oligney-Estill, further changes to programs and access to facilities may occur in the following days or weeks.

The City of Galesburg Spring Clean-up Days has been canceled. Waste Management, who provides refuse services for the City has canceled the big-item spring clean up days originally scheduled for April 6th through the 10th. All Waste Management sites, including the Galesburg recycling drop-off site located at 1360 S. Henderson Street, are currently closed to public access. Further information will be provided when the sites re-open to the public.

The Knox County Treasurer’s Office is asking patrons to NOT enter the courthouse and to pay their mobile home taxes by using the drop-box located at the exit of the parking lot on South Street. Patrons can also mail in their payment to the Treasurer’s office at 200 South Cherry Street.

The Galesburg Public Library is closing Tuesday, March 17th until further notice. Curbside service at the library is no longer offered, but ebooks are still available.

Illinois Driver Services Facilities will be closed statewide, as announced by Secretary of State Jesse White. The closing takes effect Tuesday, March 17th through March 31st.

The Discovery Depot Children’s Museum is closed Tuesday, March 17th through March 30th.

The Galesburg Salvation Army will be restricting access to its building. Those in need of food should call the office and include any food allergies they may have. The Salvation Army has shut down its choice pantry and switched to prepackaged food boxes.

The Galesburg Knights of Columbus will be canceling its Taco Tuesday Night and Wednesday Night Bingo for the rest of March.

Faith United Methodist Church has canceled the Senior Social scheduled for March 19 and postponed its chicken noodle dinner scheduled for March 26 and yard sale scheduled for April until a later time.

Bushnell United Methodist Women’s Lasagna Supper scheduled for March 28 has been canceled.

The OAKS Senior Center chili or potato soup fundraiser for March 21st has been canceled as well as the Easter egg hunt and ice cream social for April 11th.

Abbe Lanes will be closed for bowling until March 30th.
