Knox and Monmouth colleges move to remote learning

With public school in the state shutdown and colleges and universities around the country canceling in-person classes — the area’s two liberal arts colleges are moving to remote learning.

In a letter to students last week, Knox College President, Teresa Amott, said that spring break was extending by a week, starting today, and continuing through Tuesday, March 31st.

From there, classes would go exclusively online for the spring term starting on April first with the same end dates as previously scheduled, making the spring term a week shorter than originally scheduled.

That week will be utilized by staff to help prepare the new online instruction materials, redesign and re-conceptualize courses, and work to better respond to the new educational challenge.

Monmouth College is following a similar move. College President Clarence Wyatt emailed students Sunday afternoon, telling them that the school would be moving to remote learning, exclusively, starting on Monday, March 23rd.

Additionally, all campus events, meetings, and athletic practices are canceled effective immediately and until further notice. Meanwhile, students who are still on campus, residence and dining halls will remain open in the short term.

He says students should make plans to collect their belongings between now and Sunday, April 6.
