Series of traffic accidents yields DUI arrest for Galesburg man

A 25-year-old Galesburg man will be back in Knox County Circuit Court next month on a felony charge of Aggravated Driving Under the Influence after he was arrested Monday morning.

Galesburg Police say that Glennon C. Arens was behind the wheel of a black Kia Sorrento when officers received a number of driving complaints involving a black SUV at around 11:52.

According to reports, officers responded to East Losey and North Seminary streets for a traffic crash after dispatch had received several calls involving driving accidents with a vehicle matching that description.

Upon arrival, officers located the vehicle was stationary between two other vehicles and fresh damage was observed on it as well as vehicle in front and behind it.

The reports say that officers made contact with the driver, reportedly Arens, and the 22-year-old passenger, who were both observed to have red blood-shot eyes. Officers also detected the odor of cannabis an observed “a fresh shake” in the vehicle.

Both men allegedly admitted to smoking cannabis but neither had any idea of how much. Arens was asked to step out of the vehicle and reports say he nearly fell as he took an “uneasy step.” He was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of drugs. He also had a Knox County traffic warrant.

His passenger was severely impaired and could not stand on his own. Additionally, he “was so impaired he urinated on himself while officers were speaking to him,” according to police reports.

Officers located 25 grams of cannabis in the vehicle and had it towed.

Blood and urine samples were taken from Arens.

Reports say that Arens drove from Arcadia Drive, disobeying stop signs, driving through yards, striking a tree, and driving off the roadway on to terraces.

He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Tuesday, April 14.
