Imagination Station coming to Galesburg Public Library

The Galesburg Public Library Foundation along with the Galesburg Public Library is installing a new dramatic play area in the library’s Children’s Department.
It’s called the “Imagination Station.”

The new play area will feature a child-sized wooden reading nook with built-in bookshelves, a multi-activity play table, a costume rack, and a variety of rotating toys and learning tools.

All the items in the Imagination Station are geared towards supporting open-ended dramatic play.

The Imagination Station was created using the guidance of The American Library Association’s “Every Child Ready to Read” program.

The program highlights five important practices that help youngsters develop early literacy skills, reading, writing, singing, talking, and playing.

Galesburg Public Library Foundation Executive Director Heather Sipes said, “The library’s in-house children’s programming has consistently focused on those five practices”..and the hope is the library’s current physical space does the same.

The mission of the Foundation is to enhance library resources and services.

The Imagination Station will open on Monday, March 23rd with an opening reception at 6:00 pm. The reception will feature storytime and refreshments.

Children of all ages, their families, and the general public are invited to attend.
