Here’s what Annika had to say about Sarah:
What sets this teacher apart from others?
Mrs. Barrett is a huge ray of sunshine in my life and many others in her Culinary classes at Galesburg High School. She is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to cooking and baking and is always so excited to share and teach her students. In her classroom she provides us a family type atmosphere where we are all call each other brothers and sisters. This aspect of her teaching style is extremely important because some students might not have family support at home and in her classes you can feel how much she loves and cares about each of her students. Mrs. Barrett organizes cooking competitions in her classes such as a Ramen Noodle challenge and a chili cook off. One of my favorite events in her class was the Thanksgiving feast complete with turkey, ham, many sides and delicious pies. She helped us work through the recipes to cook and bake up a phenomenal dinner.

What is one thing this teacher does that is not in their job description but they do it anyway to help you or your child?
Mrs. Barrett brings us special treats she has baked at home like brownies or cupcakes or she always has something like mints or chocolate hidden in her desk if we need a little pick me up. She also has spent her own money to buy her students a special drink from the Common Ground Shop in our High School to reward us and show she appreciates her students working hard for her. Mrs. Barrett continuously goes above and beyond to offer new, exciting, and valuable learning opportunities for her students.

Give an example of a way this teacher has helped or impacted you or your child.
Mrs. Barrett offers so much support to me and always has something positive to say or great advice to give. She is full of baking and cooking wisdom and has an answer or finds me an answer for my many questions. She is genuinely interested in how her students are doing and that quality about her is something I appreciate greatly. I am extremely thankful for Mrs. Barrett and she has made a difference in my life. She truly is one of Galesburg High School’s greatest teachers.

Congratulations Sarah Barrett, March’s KFM Teacher of the Month from Galesburg Nissan, Tompkins State Bank, Lacky Monuments, Cooks & Company, Art Defined and 105.3 KFM.
