Man arrested for threats with defaced gun

A Monmouth man was arrested over the weekend after threatening someone with a gun which led to police discovering hundreds of grams of cannabis.

38-year-old Jason Mettler was arrested Sunday on charges of misdemeanor aggravated assault.

An individual reported to Monmouth Police that he was visiting a roommate of Mettler and while at the house, Mettler allegedly pointed a gun at him.

More serious charges would follow through.

Mettler allowed police to search his bedroom, where officers found a silver semi-automatic 9mm handgun, unloaded.

The serial number had been scratched off, so Mettler was charged with being in possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number.

Police in the search also located a plastic bag containing about 387 grams of cannabis under the bed’s mattress.

Mettler insisted the green leafy substance was hemp but field tests confirmed it to be marijuana

The Warren County State’s Attorney is charging Mettler with possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number and felon possession of a weapon, both Class 3 felonies.

No charges related to cannabis or alleged assault have been filed according to online court records.

Bail was set at $25,000 on Monday.
