Galesburg man arrested for trying to pass off fake money

A Galesburg man was arrested Thursday for allegedly trying to pass off a fake $100 bill.

42-year-old Bobby F. Creighton was arrested by Galesburg Police officers for the alleged crime.

According to police reports, officers were dispatched to F&M Bank on Main Street at around 2:56 p.m. for the complaint.

An employee at the bank told police officers that a white male with a red and black jacket, black stocking cap, blue jeans, glasses, and green shoes tried to get change for the $100 bill that was described as “clearly counterfeit” and had Asian characters on the back.

While talking with a bank employee, an employee from the Broadview Restaurant notified officers that a man matching that description was at the restaurant and made change with a customer before departing.

An employee at the restaurant apparently followed the man to a residence in the 100-block of West Simmons Street. There, officers found Crieghton, who apparently matched the description given to them.

Creighton allegedly told police he was unaware the money was fake, adding he found it on the ground.
