Tracy reacts to Governor Pritzker’s State of State Address

The State of the State Address was given by Governor Pritzker yesterday.

In his second address, Pritzker highlighted the legalization of recreational cannabis, roads and bridge repairs getting started, and the raising of the minimum wages as successes in his book.

Not everyone at the statehouse is onboard with that though and State Senator Jil Tracy of Quincy says that the biggest financial concern for Illinois citizens was not addressed.

“Property tax reform is the number one fiscal concern on people. It’s causing our state to lose population.”

Tracy also says that the state’s record-low unemployment is lagging behind the rest of the Midwest.

“The Governor mentioned we have low unemployment. Well, our unemployment is low. The nation’s is at an all-time low. And, we as a state are not as low as other states surrounding us.”

The Senator says that if the Governor wants to work in a bipartisan manner then work needs to be done to pay off the state’s debt and work to cut spending and stop putting off pension payments.

She adds that the state must make compromises on both sides of the aisle to take all the action necessary to rebuild the economy and care for residents.
