Tuesday Sunrise Rotary presenter plans to fly around the world

There is a Galesburg Sunrise Rotary Club meeting Tuesday morning with an interesting speaker about to embark on a journey for a good cause.

John Ockenfels of Iowa City is a regular during the National Stearman Fly-In and a past District Governor of the Iowa City District of Rotary.

Ockenfels will present the program “Around the World to End Polio.”

He along with fellow pilot Peter Teahen plan to fly eastward this spring from Cedar Rapids raising money and awareness around the globe to eradicate polio through Rotary International.

They’ll be flying in Teahen’s single-engine plane an estimated 19,601 miles for 135 in-flight hours.

One hundred percent of the funds they raise will go towards Rotary International to eradicate polio.

The Gates Foundation plans to help, donating $2 for each $1 pledged.

Tomorrow morning’s meeting starts at 7:00 am in the Skylight Room of Seymour Union on the Knox College Campus.

There is no cost for admission, but donations will be accepted to end polio.
Breakfast is available at 6:45 am for a cost of $8.

The public and prospective members are welcome.

The public can also make donations online at flighttoendpolio.com
