IEMA reminds you to stay safe during winter weather

The Illinois Emergency Management Agency is urging the public to be alert as rain, ice and snow move into the state. One of the most important things you can do as winter storms roll in is to stay vigilant says IEMA Spokesperson Rebecca Clark. That includes having an NOAA weather radio and making sure your smartphone is set up for wireless emergency alerts. “Wireless emergency alerts are available on most smartphones,” Clark said. “You have to go into your phone’s notifications settings and look under “alerts.” Sometimes it’s called “governmental alerts” or “emergency alerts.” But you want to make sure those are turned on so that you can receive emergency alerts wherever you are traveling – whether you are at home, at work, at grandma’s, or on vacation.”  Clark also recommends having an emergency kit in both your home and car.
