Knox Mass Transit District board looking for input

In June the Knox County Board passed a resolution in an effort to provide residents of Knox County with affordable public transportation. The Municipal and Rural Knox Mass Transit District – or MARK MTD – was formed. About 20,000 people in Knox County do not have access to public transportation. MARK MTD will not be a taxing district – and will need access to Federal and State grant dollars to operate effectively. The district could have an impact on economic development – through employee job access and employer access; and consumer access to businesses, schools or healthcare services. A 6-member board of trustees was established and has met three times as of early December and is working on being recognized by the State as a Mass Transit District. The first goal of the board is to add services to Knoxville and possibly extend hours of Galesburg Transit to Carl Sandburg College. The board is in need of more input from the community. Click on the link below to fill out a 2-minute survey. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend MARK MTD meetings – the next one will be held on Thursday, January 9th at 6:30 pm. Find the survey here.
