StoryWalk coming to Standish Park through Galesburg On Track.

It was announced last week that there will be a StoryWalk installed in Galesburg’s Standish Park Arboretum. The installation is anticipated for the spring of 2020. StoryWalk is a fun educational activity for all ages where enlarged pages from children’s books are installed along a popular walking path or outdoor venue. Melinda Jones-Rhodes with the Galesburg Public Library said, “We…anticipate that providing an opportunity to engage with books while playing outdoors will help children build early literacy skills, increase their vocabulary, and associate reading with recreation.” The StoryWalk project is made possible through the first grant awarded by the Stewardship Team of Galesburg On Track. The $5,000 grant was administered through the Galesburg Community Foundation and supports the joint request from the Galesburg Public Library and the City’s Parks and Rec Department. Parks and Rec Director Tony Oligney-Estill said, “The…Department is excited to partner with the…Library on such a worthwhile project.” StoryWalk books will be changed on a monthly or seasonal basis – 16 total is to be installed. Individuals or groups interested in applying for a Heart and Soul grant through Galesburg On Track may contact Tiffany Springer at the Galesburg Community Foundation.
