Former Abingdon mayor, businessman “Pud” Mangieri dies at 67

Former Abingdon Mayor Angelo “Pud” Mangieri passed away on Friday at the age of 67.

Mangieri died doing what he loved to do, carpentry work, according to his obituary from Hinchliff-Pearson-West.

Mangieri served as Abingdon Mayor from 1997 to 2001 and played an instrumental part in getting the Route 41 Bridge built over the BNSF tracks between Galesburg and Abingdon.

His local involvement ran much deeper though, formerly serving as a volunteer firefighter, was a trustee for the Abingdon Fire Protection District and served on the Abingdon District 217 School Board.

Pud Mangieri worked for BNSF for 17 years before retiring in 2017, but owned and operated Mangieri Construction in Abingdon as well.

He was also a father to four daughters with his wife Susan who he’s survived by, as well as 9 grandchildren and four siblings including former Judge Paul Mangieri.

Visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 6 at HPW in Abingdon with the praying of the rosary at 6 p.m.
