Holiday-themed events for good causes this weekend

Join 92.7 FM The Laser, FM95, 93.7 FM & 1400 AM WGIL, and 105.3 KFM this weekend to donate new, unwrapped toys for the children of Safe Harbor Family Crisis Center in Galesburg. The “Boatload of Toys” drive will be held at Walmart in Galesburg from 5am Friday to 5 pm Sunday, where station staff will be broadcasting live and encouraging you to help fill the boat full of toys. The children of Safe Harbor whose lives have been affected by domestic violence, and without your generous donation this year, may not otherwise have a very merry Christmas.

There is a fundraiser Saturday, December 21st to benefit the FC Galesburg Soccer Club. Held at Applebee’s, it’s “Short Stacks for Tall Cause” from 8:00 am to 10:00 am. Tickets are $5.

First Lutheran Church in Galesburg is hosting “Merry Tuba-Christmas” Saturday, December 21st from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The free Christmas-music concert will feature tuba, euphonium, and baritone players.

It’s the final weekend for the Gift of Lights out at Lincoln Park in Galesburg. The drive-through holiday light display is Friday, December 20th and Saturday, December 21st from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm and costs $5 per car, and $10 per bus or shuttle with proceeds to benefit local non-profits.

A holiday tradition continues Saturday, December 21st with the return of “Christmas on the Air: A Live Radio Play” at the Orpheum Theatre in Galesburg. The one-night-only radio play transports the audience back in time to a 1940s radio studio broadcasting live on Christmas Eve. “You’re the studio audience seeing them do all the sound effects, the actors coming to the mics and trading things off,” said Director Tim Holmes. “It’s interesting because to up the nature of it, we are shooting out of a canon and our first rehearsal is actually Saturday morning. The nature of the old-time radio shows, they didn’t rehearse a lot before they did it. They just kind of walked in and were given their script. There’s actually one section of the show, the actors won’t even see it until the show starts.” The show includes actors perform standing at old-fashioned microphones, with live sound effects, vintage commercials and more. Tickets start at $10 and are available at the Orpheum Theatre Box office and online.  “Christmas on the Air: A Live Radio Play” begins at 7:00pm Saturday, December 21st.
