Galesburg man arrested in FBI operation for attempting to entice child into sex

A Galesburg man is one of nine from Central Illinois that were arrested over the weekend in connection with an FBI operation enticing a child into sexual activity.
33-year-old Tyler D. Lee of Galesburg is named along with the others who are largely from the Peoria area.

The federal complaint against Lee, that was unsealed Monday, says that on Nov. 2 an FBI covert online employee was monitoring the dating app, Grindr, when Lee unknowingly contacted the covert officer.

A transcript of the conversation between Lee and the decoy indicates that the covert officer said they were 16 and Lee responds “Age is just a number to me.”

Lee asks the subject for a nude picture, suggests the two hangout and at one point he even expresses concern that the whole conversation was a “set up.”

A silver Mercedes that matched a photo Lee sent to the decoy was observed driving near the address where Lee was told to meet the 16-year-old.

Police pulled over Lee and he was arrested.

All eight others arrested were also directed to the same Peoria address.

A preliminary hearing for Lee is scheduled for November 18th at 3 p.m.
