Preliminary hearings set for nine arrested following meth bust

Preliminary hearings were scheduled for the end of the month on Friday for the nine individuals arrested Thursday by Knox County Sheriff’s Deputies following the execution of a search warrant.

Those hearings were scheduled for Tuesday, November 26, for 54-year-old William L. Wells, Galesburg residents 43-year-old Adrian C. Pettis, 51-year-old Michelle L. Esp, 32-year-old Randy K. Wilson, and 33-year-old Derek J. Clay, Monmouth residents 39-year-old Amanda J. Brunswig and 20-year-old Kara E. Haase, Jacob M. Shaner of East Galesburg, and 35-year-old Brandon A. Ware of Biggsville.

Bond was set during video detention hearings for Haase, Pettis, Sharer, Brunswig, Wilson, and Clay were set at $250,000 while Ware’s bond was only set to $50,000, according to Knox County Circuit Court records. Wells appeared on a warrant Friday where his bond stands at $150,000.

Each of them are charged with Class X felony charges of Methamphetamine Possession, Methamphetamine Manufacturing, and Methamphetamine Delivery of over 900 grams of the substance. They’re also charged with Possession of Meth Manufacturing Materials, a Class 2 felony.

Due to the excessive amount of methamphetamine, if convicted on the delivery or manufacturing Class X charges they could receive 15-60 year sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections. For possession of an amount that large, the prison sentence would be 10-50 years. A person convicted of a Class X felony cannot be sentenced to probation.

Esp is charged with Methamphetamine Possession and Possession of a Controlled Substance and her bond was set at $3,000.

Judge Curtis S. Lane appointed the public defender’s office was for all of their cases.
