MRHS Drama performance; Kiwanis Pancake Day

The Monmouth-Roseville High School Drama Club will present its fall production, the comedy The Man Who Came to Dinner, November 1st and 2nd at 7:00 pm in the M-RHS auditorium. The classic three-act comedy, directed by M-RHS English teacher Melissa Agar, finds the Ohio home of Ernest and Daisy Stanley being thrown into chaos by the arrival of radio star Sheridan Whiteside. After an accident puts Whiteside in a wheelchair, the Stanleys are forced to deal with his extravagant demands and bizarre array of gifts – all while trying to keep his secretary from leaving. “It is a comedy,” Agar said. “It’s a classic. (It’s) 1930s-1940s era three-act comedy. It’s really funny. The kids, when we were doing our first table read were just laughing. The characters that show up are really eccentric. The character in the wheelchair, Sheridan Whiteside is his name – the things he says are just so delicious. I mean, he calls people “repulsive” but it’s funny. They (the students) find it hilarious.” Tickets for the show are $7 for adults and $3 for students with ID. Tickets may be purchased at the door.

It’s the Kiwanis Club of Galesburg Pancake Day on November 1st. Held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiwanis will be serving up pancakes, sausage, OJ, milk, and coffee. The cost is $5 for adults and kids eat free. “I just encourage people to get out and come,” said Galesburg Kiwanis member Carl Nixon. “We’ve been serving these meals for a long time and we’re fortunate to have good community support as we do for most of our events. That’s what helps us raise the money. We just encourage them to come out. We’ll be cooking by 10:00 to have them ready by 10:30. So we’ll be rearing to go.” Serving times will be Friday, November 1st from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm and from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Money raised will fund the shopping trip with children from Galesburg & Knoxville in need of clothing.

The Galesburg American Legion Auxiliary is sponsoring a Quarter Auction on Friday, November 1st at the Galesburg VFW. Doors open at 5:00 pm with the auction at 6:00 pm. Paddles are $3 each or 2 for 5. There will be food for purchase, baked goods, and vendors on site. Don’t forget to bring a roll or two of quarters – the event will help support scholarships and veteran programs.
