29-year-old identified after 10-hour standoff with police

Police are now identifying 29-year-old Michael McCabe as the suspect in a domestic disturbance that turned to a 10-hour standoff with police Friday morning.

29-year-old Michael McCabe is being charged with domestic battery, aggravated unlawful restraint, unlawful use of a weapon, and interfering with the reporting of domestic violence.

McCabe was taken to the Knox County Jail for processing where he remains at this time.

At approximately 11:50 a.m., November 1, 2019, McCabe exited the residence and turned himself into police without further incident.

Police were first called to 1749 E. Main Street just after 2 a-m today, and that a white male suspect that was reportedly possessing a handgun, walked out almost ten hours later — just before noon — to turn himself in.

The man reportedly was threatening to harm himself, his family, and officers if they entered the residence. The remaining people had been evacuated safely from the house

A perimeter had at one point been set up around the residence while police had what they say was a dialogue with the subject.

It’s not believed there was any major threat to the public, but police say neighbors were allowed to evacuate their homes if they desired.

We’ll have more details as they become available on WGIL and wgil.com.
