Updated 2:30 p.m. 11/1/2019:  Galesburg Police say the standoff with an individual at a residence on East Main Street is over after about 10 hours.

Officers were able to reestablish contact with the male subject inside the residence at 1749 E. Main Street.

At approximately 11:50 a.m., November 1, 2019, the male subject exited the residence and turned himself into police without further incident.

Galesburg Police Officers responded at about 2:15 a.m. Friday to a report of a domestic disturbance with a weapon at 1749 E. Main Street, Galesburg, Illinois.

The Galesburg Police Department is continuing to investigate the matter and will release further information, including any possible criminal charges, once the investigation is concluded.

According to a GPD press release, arriving officers were able to evacuate all occupants of the home, except for a white male subject reported to have a handgun making threats to harm himself as well as his family and officers if they were to enter the residence. Neighbors on all sides of the residence were notified and given the opportunity to evacuate as well.

Officers, with the assistance of the Knox County Sheriff’s office, set up a perimeter around the residence and attempted to have a dialog with the subject inside and to resolve the situation in a satisfactory manner for all involved.

The Galesburg School District says Nielson Elementary went into a “soft lockdown” during the standoff, and went back to normal after the standoff ended.
