One dead in two car Henderson Co. crash

One person is dead after a two-vehicle crash north of Stronghurst in Henderson County on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Illinois State Police, 91-year-old Lee Avery of Media was suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash located at the intersection of 1400 East and 1050 North at around 1:52.

Police say Avery was traveling north in his 2004 Buick Century when he failed to yield at a stop sign at the intersection and pulled out in front of a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 76-year-old Terry Edwards of Smithshire.

The Silverado struck the passenger side of Century, causing both vehicles to run off the north side of 1050 North and the Edwards’ truck to overturn.

Edwards and his passenger, 75-year-old Susan Edwards, were both wearing their seatbelts at the time. It is uncertain if they sustained any serious injuries.

ISP says that Avery was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Assisting the state police were the Henderson County Sheriff’s and Coroner Offices, Stronghurst Ambulance, M.S.T. Fire Protection District, Burlington Fire Department, and Berg’s Towing.
