Four arrested in Galesburg for stealing car in Peoria

Four people from Peoria were arrested Tuesday morning after a stolen car was found in Galesburg.

According to Galesburg Police reports, officers were contacted by Peoria Police regarding the stolen vehicle. PPD told GPD officers that OnStar had been contacted and GPS showed that the car was in the area of McKnight and McClure streets.

Officers found the truck in the 1500-block of McKnight Street, at the Knox County Housing Authority parking lot.

A woman approached officers and told them that four occupants, all males, exited the vehicle and entered an apartment. Video surveillance footage corroborated what she told the police.

Contact was made with the four individuals. Two juveniles, ages 15 and 16, and two adults, 23-year-old Andrew S. Broadway and 21-year-old Jafari A. Robinson, were arrested.

During the interaction with police, Broadway told officers his name was “Chris Webber.” Once officers discovered that was a lie he was charged with Obstruction of Justice. He told police it was because he had warrants out for his arrest.

Broadway and Robinson were taken to the Knox County Jail while the two juveniles were taken to the Mary Davis Home.

Broadway and Robinson made video appearances in Knox County Circuit Court on Wednesday with Judge Curtis S. Lane.

Robinson is charged with two counts of Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and two counts of Theft. Both are Class 2 felonies. Broadway is only charged with Class 4 Obstruction of Justice on top of his warrants.

Bond for Robinson was set at $10,000 while Broadway’s bond was set at $3,000. Both men had the public defender appointed to represent them.

A preliminary hearing for Robinson was set for Tuesday, November 26. Broadway has a bond re-hearing on Monday, November 4, and a preliminary hearing on Monday, December 2.
