Plenty of indoor – and outdoor – trick or treating this year

The Carl Sandburg Alumni Association is hosting the first annual Safe Halloween on October 31st. Trick-or-treaters will have the chance to come into a warm, safe atmosphere to collect candy. “We’ll be having a door decorating contest where people can vote on their favorites,” said Kim McIntire the Alumni Relations Specialist at Sandburg. “We do have special treats that we’re handing out to the first 150 people. Then we’ll have some treat bags for the first 150 people. We don’t have just candy available. We will have other (allergy-free) options. Come out, have a good time, show off your costume, and give us feedback afterward.” Held in Building C, the event is open to the public and will be held from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm October 31st.

The 15th Annual Trunk or Treat event is also October 31st at Bethel Baptist Church in Galesburg. The free event offers a safe, indoor – and outdoor – trick-or-treating option featuring food, themes, and a movie rain or shine from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. This year’s theme is Outer Space. “No one will have to wait outside,” said Kristine Trone. “We’ll be able to put them in the building, keep them warm, and we’re going to be having an old space classic playing: “The Jetsons” (in the sanctuary),” Trone said. We’ll have a little photo booth in there and we’ll have probably five or six trunks inside the sanctuary. So no one will have to be out in the cold for very long. We usually give people enough time to get home from work, get their kiddos changed, and then go visit grandparents, go visit Carl Sandburg College, go visit the other ones, and then we’ll be here.” The Trunk or Treat at Bethel Baptist will feature over 20 trunks for trick-or-treaters to collect candy and free hotdogs and juice.

Faith United Methodist Church will also offer a free Trunk or Treat indoor event October 31st from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

The Monmouth College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is hosting trick-or-treating inside the Huff Athletic Center from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm on October 31st.
