Dropout rates increase across Knox and Warren school districts

Throughout Knox and Warren county districts dropout rates have popped over the last year, with six percent of students in Abingdon-Avon, Galesburg, and Knoxville school districts dropping out in 2019.

That’s according to data released Wednesday from the Illinois State Board of Education.

In Galesburg District 205 the demographic most likely to drop out? Low-income males with an Individual Education Plan or IEP.

There was no difference between races in dropout rate for Galesburg.

There were some instances of districts where racial minorities were more likely to drop out, typically in smaller districts that are less ethnically diverse.

Like in Abingdon-Avon; only 4 percent of students identify as Hispanic in the district, but those students are dropping out at nearly double the rate of the general student population.

Galesburg also has about 24 percent of its student population that is chronically absent, higher than the statewide 18 percent rate.
Most of the other area districts are more in line with the state average, although ROWVA, United and Knoxville are significantly lower.
