After some delays – city projects starting to make progress

The downtown Park Plaza revitalization project is ongoing – but making progress. Rainy weather has hampered progress in the past two weeks, but Director of Planning and Public Works Wayne Carl says the west portion of the parking lot should be open in two weeks (the week of November 4th). Contractors are also working towards completion on what was the walls adjoining the former West Theater. “We expect to be finished with the walls of those adjoining buildings by the end of the week,” Carl said. “Then we’ll be filling in that area. So the contractors are moving along pretty well at this point. Hopefully, the weather will hold out and cooperate this week.”

The resurfacing project on Academy Street has been taking longer than anticipated – but Carl says the contractor has moved on to the 2nd and final phase. He expects to be pouring curb and gutter and some of the concrete base this week. Carl says the way the weather outlook is now – the street will be open during the winter, and the contractor will come back in the spring to lay the brick surface.
