Galesburg woman charged in bar attack

Bond was set at $10,000 for a 30-year-old Galesburg woman who allegedly attacked a person at a bar.

Amanda G. Sherwin made a video appearance in Knox County Circuit Court on Monday where she is charged with Aggravated Battery in a Public Place, a class three felony following her arrest over the weekend.

According to a Galesburg Police report, Sherwin was suspect in an attack at Monkey Business where witnesses said that she attacked a 50-year-old woman with a beer bottle, striking her twice in the head with it before it shattered.

Several individuals told officers that Sherwin attacked the woman unprovoked after allegedly starting a fight with someone else in the bar.

Officers say that Sherwin was “heavily intoxicated” and was apologetic for attacking the woman. The victim was treated at the scene.

Reports indicate that video evidence shows she “clearly” attacked the woman unprovoked with the bottle and struck her several times in the head after it shattered.

Judge Curtis S. Lane scheduled a preliminary hearing for Tuesday, November 12. The public defender’s office was appointed to represent her.
