King Elementary addition bids approved

The District 205 Board of Education on Monday approved bid packages for King Elementary School’s addition.

Lee Marbach, Project Manager with Russell Construction, presented the board with several bids for steel fabrication and erection as well as concrete.

“We had good participation we had five concrete bidders. We had four steel fabricators and we had six steel erectors. So, pretty good participation.”

The board chose the low bids of $398,965 to Knapp Construction for building concrete, $96,436 to Design Build Structures for the steel fabrication, and $43,400 to Tri-City Ironworkers for erecting the steel.

While the price tag is pretty hefty, Marbach told the board that the bid packages were seriously under budget.

“These were about $200,000 lower than original estimates. We do have some stuff still in flux with the design to know where that will land with the overall project.”

He also told board members that bid documents for the rest of King were expected to be brought to the board next month.

“We’ll be coming next board meeting with the bid documents for the rest of the building. To start that process out… to get started to meet deadlines and the schedule. We’ve got to get started on the stuff underground.”

Board members also approved spending $183,211 for flooring for Lombard Middle School’s new additions and renovations.
