Peterson receives Monmouth College prize for teaching

A long-time communication professor at Monmouth College, Trudi Peterson, has been named the college’s 2019 recipient of the Hatch Award for Distinguished Teaching.

Peterson came to Monmouth in 1998, where she has spent the entirety of her professional teaching career, holding a Ph.D. from Bowling Green State University.

While Peterson’s humor and knowledge allow her to hold a class’s attention for 50 minutes she prefers to have a good back-and-forth with her classes.

She also takes pride in the personal relationships she cultivates with her students saying that she tries to be for students what she needed when she was a student.

Peterson is also the coordinator of the College’s women studies program.

She spends a lot of time in her office with students and enjoys seeing them grow into people that she would like to be friends with.

The Hatch Award for Distinguished Teaching has been given since 2005 with past recipients including Mark Wilhardt, Lee McGaan, and Ken Cramer.
