The new school year is about a month in, and a popular destination for school field trips is the Discovery Depot Children’s Museum. With the expansion into the second floor of the building, there may be a lot more things that teachers don’t realize the museum offers. “We thought this would be an ideal opportunity,” said Executive Director Denise Bradburn. “Maybe they need a little after-hours event. Teachers can network with one another, maybe meet our staff, and talk with (Program Director) Kate (Budde) and ask about the add-on programs they can add-on to field trips. Just, have a fun night, play in the museum, and just figure it all out.” Discovery Depot will see 50-75 schools and hundreds of classes a year for field trips – some as far as two hours away that come in on the Amtrak. Some of the new field trip “add-ons” that the new Science Classroom offers include: making slime, a stem-building challenge where students build a bridge and building a boat using recycled materials. Thursday, September 19th’s open-house-like event will include drinks and appetizers, field trip information, and add-ons for field trips that teachers can take advantage of. Teachers interested in attending tomorrow’s “Teacher’s Night Out” beginning at 4:30 pm don’t have to register, but you can give the Depot a heads up by emailing programs@discoverydepot.org.
