Bustos touts Rural Green Partnership

17th District Congresswoman Cheri Bustos submitted the framework for policies that she says will combat climate change and spur economic growth.

It’s called the Rural Green Partnership and it details a set of policies that worth with all levels of governments, producers, businesses, unions, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders to lower greenhouse gas emissions in every economic sector of rural America.

She says that with many of these green packages, small-town America is ignored or part of the problem instead of a partner.

“First of all, we want to make sure that we have a seat at the table. We want to make sure that when others look at family farmers — look at small-town America — that they see us as part of the solution and not as part of the problem.”

Bustos says that some of the most important agricultural groups in the state have endorsed her plan.

“It’s been endorsed by groups… the Soybean Association, Corn Growers, the Farm Bureau. So, these are folks who have felt like at times they’ve been blamed for climate problems rather than to bring folks in and say ‘we want you at the table, we want you to be part of the solution.’ And, that’s what this is all about.”

She adds that climate change is the, “most complicated challenge our country has ever faced.”
