Two 37-year-old women are in the Knox County Jail awaiting bond rehearings next week on drug charges.
Galesburg residents Summer C. Johnson and Melissa S. Nelson were arrested near the intersection of East South and South Chambers at around 12:18 am on Thursday.
Galesburg Police stopped and searched a vehicle leading to the discovery of what would field test positive for methamphetamine. Additionally, officers found drug paraphernalia and Hydrocodone and Tramadol.
Both women denied possession of the meth, with Johnson allegedly telling officers that she didn’t ingest meth. The report says she told officers she, “only does heroin.”
According to the police report, the women were taken to jail and a search of them was performed. The report states that “Johnson had five hypodermic syringes in her bra and a plastic baggie containing suspected meth found in her vagina.” No contraband was found on Nelson.
The two women made video appearance in Knox County Circuit Court on Thursday on charges of Class 3 methamphetamine possession. Because jail staff found the methamphetamine and syringes on Johnson, she is also charged with possession of contraband in a penal institution, a Class 3 felony.
Bond for Johnson was set at $10,000 while Nelson’s bond was $4,000.
They’ll be back in Knox County Court on Monday, September 9, for bond rehearings and on October 8 for a preliminary hearing.
