Traffic collision leads to DUI arrest

A Galesburg woman was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence after allegedly striking the back of a stopped vehicle.

47-year-old Tamara Sloan is charged with a number of traffic offenses as well as driving under the influence of alcohol. $1,500 cash bond was posted for her on Saturday.

According to a Galesburg Police report, officers were called out to the East Fremont and North Broad intersection at around 10-10 Friday night for a motor vehicle crash with unknown injuries.

Sloan was allegedly behind the wheel of a vehicle when she rear-ended a stopped car. While talking with officers, she spoke with, quote, “thick tongued slurred speech,” the report indicates.

When asked if she had been drinking, she allegedly told police that she had, quote, “just a couple of blocks to go.” A field sobriety test was conducted and indicated she was intoxicated.

After being taken to the public safety building, where admitted to hitting the vehicle then denied driving.

She was taken to the Knox County Jail where a breathalyzer test was done. Reports indicate she had a blood-alcohol level of 0.259.
