Carl gives more updates on City projects.

Director of Planning and Public Works for the City of Galesburg Wayne Carl gave updates on some ongoing local projects. The big construction project underway on North Academy Street is moving along. “That is on a brick street and it’s a protected brick street,” Carl said. “The contractor has removed all the brick, cleaned them all off-site and has them all stacked up waiting to be put back once he has the concrete base poured. So far, he’s installed a new water main for the length of the project and new water service lines to all the residents. He’s also been working on a retaining wall on the west side of the road that needed to be reconstructed as part of that project.” The contractor is expected to be pouring concrete this week for the new curb and gutter. Carl estimates another 3 weeks to finish this first phase of the project – which is south two-thirds of the project.
Next, the contractor will be working on the north portion of the project which should take another four weeks. The contractor also began work on Monroe Street from North to Losey last week with the replacement of the water main. That brick street will be reconstructed back to concrete and the sidewalks will be replaced as well. Work on Monroe is to be done in two phases and will be completed sometime in the late fall.
