New Library director now on the job, meeting public at library Thursday

The Galesburg Public Library’s new director is now on the job after her hiring was announced in July.
Noelle Thompson is a Galesburg native, who has returned to lead the public library, having started Monday.

The public is invited to meet Thompson at a meet and greet at the Library Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m.

Thompson is coming to Galesburg after working as director of Leid Scottsbluff Public Library in Scottsbluff, Nebraska for the past three years.

She started her work in libraries at Monmouth College’s Hewes Academic Library at Monmouth College but says she has a passion for what public libraries mean to communities.

“Just a range of how they can serve people that use them,” Thompson says .”I just want to be a part of that part of what they do for the community  and how they provide education, information, and enlightening resources.”

Thompson may be leading GPL into a time of transition as trustees are cautiously optimistic that funding for a new library will be provided through a $45 billion infrastructure package signed by Gov. J.B. Pritzker this summer.
