Monmouth firefighters battle in-town structure fire

The cause of a residential structure fire in Monmouth is currently under investigation.

Firefighters in the Maple City responded to the fire Monday at around 1:46 p.m. in the 400-block of East 11th Avenue.

According to a release from the city, firefighters found the blaze involved two structures on the property.

A search of the structures yielded no human or animal occupants. The fire was brought under control quickly, according to the release.

The fire caused significant damage to an outbuilding and moderate damage to the residence. No injuries were reported.

Responding to help with the incident were the Cameron and Kirkwood Fire Departments, Monmouth Police Department, Galesburg Hospital Ambulance Service, and the American Red Cross.
