Firearms stolen in weekend burglary

Two firearms were reported stolen in a residential burglary on Friday.

Galesburg Police responded to an apartment on South Pleasant Avenue for the theft at around 12:58 p.m.

According to the report, the resident told police that he had arrived just before contacting them and finding the north-side door to the apartment forced open. He told police he had gone through the residence and noticed a rifle stolen from the living room floor and a handgun taken from the bedroom.

Additionally, $100 in cash and a bed sheet and comforter were also taken from the bedroom. The resident believed the bedding was taken to help hide the guns as they were taken from the residence.

The victim told police that he was last at the residence at 9:00 that morning, and noticed nothing unusual.

The weapons were described as a DiamondBack AR-15 Rifle with Firefield Scope and Earthtone Glock 19x 9mm handgun. The report indicates the combined value of the guns was $1,300.

The investigation continues.
