76-year-old woman ticketed for Scott’s Law violation, crash

Despite the increased enforcement and public awareness of Scott’s Law, there was an accident on US 74 near Knoxville yesterday afternoon.

According to the Illinois State Police at around 12:05 at Chevy Traverse entered 74 westbound from Knox County Route 9. Department of Transportation crews had the right lane shut down for maintenance work just west of the on-ramp.

The Traverse driver, 76-year-old Joyce A. Lahmann of Garnavillo, Iowa, failed to move into the left lane and struck the crash attenuator of the rear IDOT truck.

The 24-year-old driver of the maintenance truck suffered only minor injuries and was transported to OSF Prompt Care for medical attention.

ISP says that Lahmann was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash and for violating Scott’s Law.
