Monmouth police discover over 70 cats during search

Monmouth Police obtained a warrant to enter a residence Tuesday morning where in excess of 75 cats were found.
Maple City authorities say they were alerted by several concerned parties regarding a large feline population at a residence in the 300 block of W. 3rd Avenue.

Part of the information they received indicated the conditions in the home were detrimental to the residents’ safety.

MPD obtained a warrant to enter the residence, inspect the conditions and remove the cats.

Residents of the home received health evaluations by personnel on-scene.

The cats were transported to a secure location where they are currently undergoing observation and treatment by veterinary personnel.

Also assisting on the scene; Monmouth Fire, Monmouth Small Animal Hospital, Western Illinois Animal Rescue, and Galesburg Hospitals Ambulance Service.
