Stark County School District terminates two people over alleged bucket incident

Two Stark County employees had their jobs with the district terminated, following a unanimous vote from the school board on Monday night.

School board documents and public comment given during the meeting indicate that the two employees in question were Stark County Board Chairman Al Curry and Cathy Webster. An executive session was held prior to the vote.

A bus driver and bus aide were suspended in May after the mother of a 7-year-old boy complained that the aid put a five-gallon bucket over the student’s head to address an alleged behavior issue.

A statement from the after the initial incident said, “While the child was not seriously injured, the actions of these employees are clearly contrary to policies and standards of Stark County Schools.”

District 100 said at the time that it does not condone the actions of the employees and that safety is the district’s top priority.
