The Orpheum Theatre is helping to bring a renowned voice on National Public Radio to Galesburg in September.

Ira Glass, creator and host of the six-time Peabody award-winning program This American Life, will be coming to the historic theatre on September 21st at 7:30 p.m. to give his talk Seven Things I’ve Learned.

Glass began his career in 1978 with NPR as an intern at the network’s headquarters in Washington D.C., eventually making his way on the air in nearly every NPR news program in some fashion.

He served as a tape cutter, newscast writer, desk assistant, editor, reporter, and producer – even filling into host Talk of the Nation and Weekend All Things Considered.

His show, This American Life, is heard each week by over 2.2 million listeners on more than 500 public radio stations and gets another 2.5 million downloads for each podcast. It has also earned some of the highest honors for broadcasting and journalistic excellence.

He is also one of the editors of the podcasts Serial and S-Town.

Glass brought This American Life on the air in 1995 and was even able to adapt it to television as premium cable network Showtime ran the show for two seasons. He has also produced three feature films: Mike Birbiglia’s “Don’t Think Twice” and “Sleepwalk with Me”, and the Netflix film “Come Sunday.”

Tickets go on sale Monday, June 17th, online and will be available at the Orpheum Theatre’s box office the following day starting at 10:00 a.m.
