More details in on Rapatee house explosion

Some additional details on the house explosion Sunday in Rapatee have been released.

According to the Fairview Fire Protection District, a total of nine structures – including the home that was destroyed – sustained damage.   The Fairview Fire Protection District was dispatched to Rapatee Sunday at 11:24am near the intersection of North Street and Illinois Route 97 for a house explosion with a person inside.

Fairview requested mutual aid from Maquon, London Mills, and Farmington Fire Departments.

The explosion could be heard and heavy smoke was visible from Fairview.   Upon arrival units found a single family residence had completely exploded with no standing structure. Multiple civilians were on scene assisting.

One resident was thrown from the structure and responding units were performing life-saving measures.  The second resident was found and deemed deceased by EMS Personnel.  The names of the reported two victims in the explosion have not yet been released.

No additional residents were found injured after a search of nearby residences.

Power was restored and Illinois Route 97 was reopened by 7:00pm.
