Two lives claimed in explosion at southern Knox County home

Two lives were claimed in an apparent gas explosion at a home Sunday, in the small community on Rapatee in southern Knox County.
Fulton and Knox County authorities say they are continuing to investigate and will release more information, including the deceased’s names once they conclude their investigation.

They say a formal statement could come as soon as Monday.
The explosion occurred around 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

The Fairview Fire Department is said to have responded first, discovering debris scattered throughout the roadway and neighboring homes, some of which had “severe damage”.

Rapatee is about six miles east of London Mills, and a mile from the Fulton County Line on Illinois Route 97.

The community lost power until around 8 p.m., as power poles and lines were damaged in the blast.
