Pair of California women arrested for smuggling ten pounds of heroin on Amtrak

Two California women were arrested Thursday after detectives found they were transporting nearly 10 pounds of heroin, with an approximate street value of $450,000, on an Amtrak train.

Knox County Detectives investigated suspicious passengers on the California Zephyr, 35-year-old Daisy Lugo and 52-year-old Vanessa Winston, both of Bakersfield, California.

Subsequent investigation led to them both being arrested in Princeton, Illinois.

A Knox County Judge issued warrants for both subjects with of bond $1,000,000 to apply.
