Galesburg woman pleads guilty to misdemeanor for aiding Jonathan Kelly

The woman accused of aiding Jonathan Kelly in his flight from law enforcement and then lying to police about it has taken a plea deal.

23-year-old Dashay Burnett will serve no more time incarcerated than the 15 days she’s already served after Knox County prosecutors agreed to drop felony counts of obstruction of justice and aiding a fugitive on Thursday. They were both Class 4 felonies.

Instead, she pleaded guilty to a Class A misdemeanor of attempted aiding a fugitive for her role in transporting Kelly over state lines, from Davenport, Iowa to Champaign.

According to police Burnett had a “domestic relationship” with Jonathan Kelly, the man convicted of murdering Jenni McGruder on Easter Morning 2018.

Burnett admitted in May to lying to police an initial interview in April of 2018.

Kelly faces 45 years to life in prison when he’s sentenced on May 10. Burnett will also be on probation for two years and pay a fine of $500.
