County Board to consider approval of new nursing home administrator

The Knox County Board will consider hiring a new administrator for the Nursing Home at their Wednesday, March 27th, meeting.

Donna Motz has been serving as administrator since September on an interim basis. Last July, the board accepted a separation agreement with Rachel Secrist, leaving a vacancy.

Since then, the financial situation has turned around at the nursing home. Additionally, Randy Linch with the American Federation for State, County and Municipal Employees has previously come before the county board, encouraging them to consider Motz for the permanent position.

During the March Nursing Home Committee meeting, committee chair Tara Wilder announced that the final two candidates were interviewed for the position.

According to the board agenda, board members will approve the nursing home administrator position, as well as a different agreement with Motz. Indicating that she is not being considered for the position.

WGIL has reached out to Wilder for clarification on the agenda but has had no response.

Board members will have more to consider, including the approval of purchasing four brand new squad cars for the Sheriff’s Department.

Board documents indicate that four 2019 Ford Interceptors are being purchased from Morrow Brothers Ford in Greenfield, Illinois.

The total of the four vehicles comes to $109,840.

Additionally, the board will consider approving the fabrication of a spiral staircase for the courthouse. The board had approved this same item back in December of 2017, but the work was considered unsatisfactory.

Two bids are included in board documents. The first from Titan Industries would cost the county $6,340. The other, from Mechanical Services Inc. would cost $8,295.

Board members will also consider a series of conditional use permits, amendments to the zoning resolution, and engineering agreements.

The open meeting for the Knox County Board will be at 6:00 p.m. at the Galesburg City Council Chambers.
