Bridges on Farnham Street getting work done

Two bridge projects are getting work done starting April 1.

It’s time for work to be finished on the Aleine Shotts Bridge on Farnham Street.

Farnham from Grove to Summit Street will be closed while Sangamo Construction completes the project.

Director of Planning and Public Works Wayne Carl said in December that concrete and landscaping work would likely be done this spring as well.

The bridge was renamed the Aleine Shotts Bridge, after Galesburg’s first female alderman, after a City Council vote in November.

Additionally, the bridge that carries North Farnham over U.S. 34  will be shut down for six weeks.

The Illinois Department of Transportation says the work includes straightening and replace steel girders, and they are also believed to be laying another layer of asphalt.

IDOT says that there will be intermittent lane closures on the ramps from I-74, and a detour will be posted during construction, with work expected to be finished in May.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through the work area.
