Wyanet man arrested in Galesburg on meth delivery

A Wyanet man is charged with methamphetamine delivery made a video appearance in Knox County Circuit Court Wednesday where bond was set at $75,000.

41-year-old Jeffrey M. Hewitt faces two felony charges of possessing between 15-100 grams of meth. The most severe of the two felonies being a Class X delivery charge. He also is charged with a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Galesburg Police say that a traffic stop near the intersection of East Main and North Prairie streets led to the discovery that Hewitt was driving on a suspended license. A K-9 unit was called to the scene and a free air sniff test was conducted, alerting to the vehicle.

A search of the occupants was conducted. Hewitt and the passengers were found with no contraband on them. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of several packages of what would field test positive for meth on the driver’s side floor, near the center console. In total, about 29 grams of methamphetamine was found.

The passengers of the vehicle indicated that Hewitt made comments during the traffic stop that he didn’t know where to stash them.

Judge Patricia A. Walton appointed the public defender’s office to represent Hewitt and scheduled a preliminary hearing for March 26th.
