The Knox County Nursing Home Committee is expected to have selected a new administrator by the end of the week.
The facility has been without an administrator since Rachel Secrist and the county parted ways last summer. In the interim, Donna Motz has been acting as administrator.
Tara Wilder, Nursing Home Committee Chair, made that announcement at last night’s committee meeting, adding that there were two finalists for the position. Once their choice has been made, it’ll go before the full board for a vote on March 27th.
Board President Pam Davidson said that over fourteen people applied for the administrator position. The names of the two finalists were not disclosed in the meeting.
The board did get a presentation from Cody Basham of Klingner and Associates over recommendations for work on the facility. Basham detailed several recommended projects to committee members including roof patches, door and tile replacement, replacing the freight elevator, A-D-A upgrades, and much more.
Basham’s list included an estimated price tag with each item. Ron Williams, the facility’s Environmental Services Director, said that when they remodeled Wing 1 of the facility it had a hefty price to it.
“You’ve head all these numbers from Cody. Just to let you know, you [don’t want to have to do partial work.] In wing one, we closed it down, did everything, it was around two-million dollars.”
Committee members also discussed moving the meetings to a different day of the month. As of now, they’re scheduled for the second Tuesday of each month.
The board did approve for bids to go out for roof work and sewer line. Additionally, the county will be doing emergency work on a condensing unit that is leaking freon.
During Basham’s presentation, he had included both projects as needing to be done.
It was also approved to move the meeting times to 6:00 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month, to follow the Finance Committee meetings.
