Monmouth Mayor previews upcoming projects.

Monmouth Mayor Rod Davies, like many of the area communities, is anticipating the end of winter. After all, the City of Monmouth’s salt budget has blown past totals of the past two winters combined.  Davies previewed some upcoming projects for the city which includes a sewer overflow project. The EPA-mandated project is slated for the summer and fall. Davies is confident the evaluation and study to follow the project will see the city meeting EPA standards. The city is also in the process of bidding out a water main project. “The city put in a new water main down South Main Street and what we’re going to do is tie that new water main in and we’ll go past Jamison Center and Harding School and go down to 6th Street and tie that into the water tower,” Davies said. “That service line (has) had a lot of breaks and needs a lot of repairs. (It) also had limited flow. This is really going to improve the flow and increase the reliability and decrease our operating costs.” The water main project is funded through a community development block grant. Other projects this year includes the outdoor Pattee Foundation / YMCA Aquatics Facility and a Love’s Travel Stop coming to the west side of town.
