New eatery coming to former Burger King

A new eatery is coming to Galesburg this spring.

Lennys Grill & Subs, a quick service restaurant offering sandwiches, grilled subs, Philly cheesesteaks, and salads, will be coming to 1282 North Henderson Street, former home of Burger King.

According to the Knox County Area Partnership for Economic Development, the fast-growing chain will be making Galesburg their first location in Illinois. The chain has 100 locations already, primarily in the Southeastern and South-Central United States, with a plan to reach 200 locations within the next five years.

The Galesburg location will be locally owned by area residents Tammy and Anthony Weiss. The pair relocated to Galesburg six years ago when Anthony retired from the U.S. Army after 25 years of service and joined BNSF Railroad.

“We are very excited to have the Weiss family bring Lennys Grill and Subs to Galesburg,” says Kevin Martin, President and CEO of Lennys Grill and Subs, “The Weiss’ have the community connections and energy that will position Lennys for success.”

KCAP says that the Galesburg location will hire around 20 full and part-time employees.

“The Knox County Area Partnership for Economic Development is excited for another great addition to our community’s growing restaurant scene. We’re very happy to see Lennys revitalizing a vacant building on a prime retail corridor in Galesburg,” says KCAP President Ken Springer.
