Traffic stop leads to felony charges against trio

Three people have been charged after a traffic stop led to the discovery of drugs and a weapon over the weekend.

42-year-old Stephanie S. Bush and 38-year-old Amanda J. Brunswig both of Galesburg, along with 36-year-old Timothy E. Pence of Monmouth made video appearances in Knox County Circuit Court on Monday.

Pence faces two felony charges of being a felon in possession of a weapon and possession of a controlled substance. Bush is charged with possessing less than five grams of methamphetamine, a felony, and a misdemeanor of possession of drug paraphernalia. Brunswig is charged with felony possession of a controlled substance.

According to a Galesburg Police report, officers conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle at around 10:57 Saturday night in municipal parking lot “A.”

Pence was the alleged driver and admitted to officers that he had a suspended license and he was arrested without incident. The report indicates that Bush, the front seat passenger, told officers that there were a drug pipe and scale in her purse in the back seat of the vehicle. She allegedly told police that the scale had been used two days prior to weight methamphetamine.

A search of the purse yielded the scale and drug pipe, both field-tested positive for the presence of meth. Also found were three hypodermic syringes; two unused, clear plastic bags; two small glass vials, one of which contained an unknown white substance.

Burns and Brunswig, the backseat passenger, were arrested after the discovery and a search of the vehicle was conducted. Reports indicate that officers discovered a plastic bag containing nine white pills that later were discovered to be acetaminophen/hydrocodone, a schedule II controlled substance.

Additionally, officers allegedly found another scale and a functioning police scanner that was on and operating inside of a drawstring bag on the driver’s seat. Reports noted that an eight-inch fixed knife was found concealed between the driver’s seat and center console.

In a blue backpack on the passenger side floor were a used hypodermic syringe, a small clear plastic bag, police scanner, and a flashlight/stun gun combination.

During their detention hearings on Monday afternoon, Judge Patricia A. Walton set bond at $5,000 for Brunswig and Bush and $10,000 for Pence.

Preliminary hearings for all three were scheduled for March 12th. Each will have a bail rehearing early in March.
